Course Overview

This course provides participants with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to respond to fire and emergency situations in the workplace using portable fire-fighting equipment and carry out safe evacuation procedures in line with WHS Standards for High Risk Work.

This LicensingTL course equips participants with the practical skills and knowledge required to recognise fire hazards, use portable fire-fighting equipment and perform safe evacuation procedures in accordance with High Risk Standards for Planning for emergencies in facilities. Designed to complement WHS-licensed site training, it prepares workers to act as members of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), supporting the employer’s duty under work health and safety legislation to prepare, train and equip workers for fire and other workplace emergencies.

Course Topics

  • Identify classes of fire and select appropriate portable fire extinguishers
  • Apply safe techniques when using extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels
  • Carry out emergency evacuation procedures in line with WHS Standards
  • Perform Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) and warden responsibilities
  • Communicate, raise the alarm and report incidents during emergencies
